Just a short walk from the Captain’s Manor Inn the season of holiday merriment is in high swing at historic Highfield Hall! For the past two weekends, the mansion has hosted “Holidays at Highfield,” a chance to for the public to view the elegant rooms decked out in their holiday finest. Below are some wonderful photos of the decorations and handmade creches from all over the world.

Just 3 miles down the road from The Captain’s Manor Inn in Falmouth is the Woods Hole Science Aquarium which has two new exciting exhibits. “Sounds of the Sea” features whale and other marine animal sounds in an interactive display and “Albatross: A Legacy of Research” features the 46 year career of the 187 foot research vessel Albatross IV. Albatross IV sailed from Woods Hole from 1962 until its retirement and decommissioning in 2008. The display includes many items including three main panels each with a video display above highlighing the seafarers, the ship itself and the science it accomplished.
The Aquarium is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 AM to 4 PM. Admission is free, but donations are accepted.

After much research and work the Sunken Garden is available to view and enjoy. In its focal location, it is the most visible garden on the property and the one that will be most closely returned to its original historical appearance. Shuckers Restuarant
Date night out! We headed down to Woods Hole for the 20th anniversary of the Woods Hole Film Festival and stopped off at Shuckers for a meal of Sea Food Chowda, Crab Cakes, etc. Started off eating on the barge but seeing as I get seasick (apparently with even the slightest motion) Kevin suggested we head into the stationary porch overlooking the barge. (Smart move ) After dinner we headed over to Jimmy’s for some great frozen yogurt – black raspberry with chocolate chips. Then on to see the Woods Hole Film Festival Short Film collage which included:

Many of our guests at The Captain’s Manor Inn enjoy the outdoors during their time in Falmouth, Cape Cod. Outdoor activities include hiking spots such as Beebe Woods or Spohr Gardens, biking on the Shining Sea bikeway, walking the village main street, swimming over at Surf Drive beach and kayaking. Cape Cod Kayak located in the village of Cataumet in Falmouth has been a favorite of our guests in terms of equipment rentals and tours. So next time you visit perhaps you might like to try a new outdoor adventure and head over to Cape Cod Kayak to see some of our beautiful seashore from a new angle.

One of the reasons we purchased The Captain’s Manor Inn in Falmouth Ma. after looking at Inn properties throughout the East coast was the beauty of Cape Cod and how many things there are to do on the Cape or nearby. One great example is the Newport Jazz Festival seeing as Newport is only an hour and ten minutes from The Captain’s Manor Inn in Falmouth Cape Cod.
Why not attend the Newport Jazz Festival on August 5th, 6th and 7th and after the festivities on Sunday head to Falmouth and plan a respite at The Captain’s Manor Inn enjoying all there is to offer in Falmouth. While here we encourage you to plan a day trip to Martha’s Vineyard. Start early with a full breakfast at 8am at the Inn and then head over to the ferry for your 45 minutes trip to Martha’s Vineyard. Enjoy a day of exploration on the Vineyard then take the ferry back and plan on a wine/cheese platter at our Inn before going out to dinner at one of the fine restaurants in walking distance from the Inn.

Just a short stroll from our bed and breakfast accomodations at The Captain’s Manor Inn is lovely Falmouth Village. This year’s arts and crafts street festival on July 13th in Falmouth Village Cape Cod was fantastic. It was a hot summer day and thousands of people came to enjoy the beautiful handcrafted items and to see many of the artisans performing their craft work. Main Street in Falmouth was closed down as they do each year for the festival.
The Falmouth Village shops and restaurants on main street participate in the big day and many set up tables outside their shops and restaurants with great merchandise or nice ice cold water and other snacks.

The beauty of Cape Cod is how much there is to do on the Cape or nearby. For example, Newport is only an hour a ten minutes from The Captain’s Manor Inn in Falmouth Cape Cod.

This year’s festival promises to be another great event. Stay at The Captain’s Manor Inn and venture down to the many events at the Woods Hole Film Festival from 07/30/11 until 08/06/11. We are especially happy to share that Patrimony will be showing on August 3rd, 2011 at 7pm. Many of you may recall that we were privileged to have the stars of the movie – Robert Vaughn and Melissa Errico stay at The Captain’s Manor Inn during the filming of Patrimony back in May of 2010. Congratulations to Don Marcus, director, and his team – the film was awarded an Indie Soul Special Recognition Award at the Boston International Film Festival!

We are happy to see the ArtMarket begin its 5th summer in Falmouth on Main Street just down the street from The Captain’s Manor Inn. The market runs every Tuesday from 2pm until 8pm beginning today through Labor Day.
About 24 artists and artisans from Falmouth will have their tables set up to show and sell their creations. There will be painters, jewelers, glassblowers, ceramists, fabric artists, and more, displaying their work and demonstrating their skills, as well as performances by local musicians.
Two new features this year are a display of books by Falmouth authors and CDs by Falmouth musicians.
