Drone Adventure on Cape Cod

July 10, 2016 by Trish Robinson

Get away to Cape Cod and have your own drone adventure on Cape Cod with Sky Flik. Working with Sky Flik we created a video of The Captain’s Manor Inn and favorite Falmouth Cape Cod landmarks. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Now we have a number of great stills photos and a video for potential guests to get a realistic view of our Inn and the Falmouth area. During your next visit to Cape Cod why not add our drone adventure package to your stay? Scroll down our blog to see still pictures from our drone adventure and read about some of Falmouth’s favorite landmarks.  In our slightly less than 3 minute drone video you will see aerial views of our grounds, Falmouth Village, Nobska Lighthouse, the Shining Sea Bikeway and The Knob.

Drone Footage of Captain’s Manor Inn

cmiWe had a gorgeous spring day for our drone adventure in Cape Cod as we took the footage for the grounds of the Inn and the surrounding area. Our desire was to show the expanse of the grounds because often guests are surprised at the depth of the gardens.  Jason piloted the drone as if you were driving down the driveway to the back gardens and gazebo to provide a true feel of the space. One of our favorite clips is where the drone is returning from Falmouth Village and you get a great view of Siders Pond and you can see how close we are to the ocean.

Shining Sea Bikeway2016-06-19 (1)

For bikers, joggers, and walkers the Shining Sea Bikeway is a treasure. You just take a left out of our driveway and then a few houses down take another left to get to the bikeway. We love to walk south on the bikeway to Woods Hole. A nice stop along the way is the Salt Pond bird sanctuary just to your left on the bikeway. Stroll the winding paths around Salt Pond then then hop back on the bikeway headed to Woods Hole.

Drone video

This 11 mile flat bikeway is great in terms of its varied scenery. Heading south you will pass several ponds and you will hug the ocean facing Martha’s Vineyard. Your reward at the end could be a baked goodie at Pie in the Sky or a lobster taco at Quicks Hole Taqueria in Woods Hole. When you head north on the bikeway you will traverse beautiful marshes and cranberry bogs.

The Knobthe knob 2

The Knob w noteThe knob is a tranquil area that has been preserved for Falmouth natives and visitors alike and where you can view incredible sunsets. It was a gift to the Salt Pond Bird Sanctuaries by Cornelia L. Carey in the early 1970s. For many Falmouth natives and visitors alike The Knob remains a bit of a hidden gem. At one time The Knob was part of a 16-acre property purchased by Carey’s family in 1877. You can still see some of the former resort buildings that made up the Quissett Harbor House, was a popular resort for nearly a century which closed in 1975.

Sunset at The Knob

From our Inn you take a right out of the driveway, then a left onto Woods Hole Road and at your first light take a right onto Quisset Harbor road. At the end of the road you are across from Quisset harbor where you will find about 20 parking spaces. Park your car and you will see the entrance path to The Knob. Walk along the harbor, next to Little Sandy, the first of the three beaches along The Knob.

Your scenic walk on the trail is just under one mile from the start to The Knob overlook. At the end of your walk you will be treated to fabulous views of Buzzards Bay atop The Knob. Based on the weather and how clear the sky is you may also see the Elizabeth Islands to the south.

For the nature lover and romantic we highly recommend a visit to the Knob to view the sunset.

Nobka lighthouse on sunny day as featured in top ten cultural hotels in cape cod blogNobska Lighthouse was established in 1828 to protect sailors in Vineyard Sound and Buzzards Bay.

Just a few miles from our Inn, Nobska lighthouse stands on a bluff overlooking Vineyard Sound. From the bluff you can view Martha’s Vineyard, the Elizabeth Islands, and Woods Hole Passage. From 1828 until 1939 the Nobska Point Lighthouse was operated by the U.S. Lighthouse Service. In 1939 the U.S. Lighthouse service merged with the U.S. Coast Guard. The US Coast Guard’s Commanding Officer was in residence at the lightkeepers cottage on property until 2013.

In 2014, based on the need for significant repair, the Coast Guard started looking for bidders to assume responsibility for the lighthouse, tower, and land surrounding the structures. There were contingencies to include that the property would continue to belong to the federal government and therefore must be open to the public for free. Through a lot of work and cooperation the Town of Falmouth was the successful bidder. The Town gave responsibility for restoration, maintenance and operation as a museum to the Friends of Nobska Light. The Friends plan to complete restoration work and open the museum and tower not later than 2020.

3 New Restaurants in Falmouth Upper Cape

May 13, 2016 by Trish Robinson

3 new restaurants in Falmouth include the Water Street Kitchen and Public House

3 new restaurants in Falmouth include CSalt at TGC in East Falmouth

CSalt at The Grille at TGC

As we approach Memorial Day,  Cape Cod’s unofficial beginning of the summer season, 3 new restaurants in Falmouth have opened and we are looking forward to another fun filled season.

Swordfish Chop at CSalt

First we share that the ever popular CSalt has opened a second location at The Grille Room at The Golf Club in East Falmouth.CSalt has long been a favorite restaurant of our guests particularly their calamari and mussel dishes seem to be fan favorites. We were fortunate to attend the premier opening night for the new CSalt and Kevin enjoyed the sea scallops for his main entree after his calamari appetizer and I enjoyed the swordfish which was cooked perfectly. A couple of things to know about the new CSalt location – they offer both indoor and outdoor dining weather permitting and the size of this 2nd restaurant location it is a bit larger. The menu has some differences from the original CSalt such as the addition of  “Jill’s pasta. The CSalt at The Grille Room also does automatically place a 20% gratuity on your bill because the facility is part of The Golf Club country club. Our culinary kitchen assistant, Lauren, just this past week went to CSalt at The Grille Room for lunch and raved about the great sandwiches and service.

In the village of Woods Hole in Falmouth two new waterfront restaurants will look forward to welcoming you this summe. The restaurant previously known as Fishmonger will be reopening as Water Street Kitchen and Public House,  and the former waterfront restaurant known as Phusion has just reopened as 41-70. Enjoy some articles that have been written recently about 41-70. First is an article is by a writer from bostonchefs.com in anticipation of the opening and their excitement that 41-70 will feature two accomplished Brookline chefs. The next article is one written by a local writer for the cape cod times and is after the opening this spring of 2016.

Other restaurant news is that many of us in town have missed the delicious food from thai restaurant Bangkok Cuisines which due to a fire in the neighboring building was destroyed a couple of years ago………well they are returning to town and will be opening on Main Street in Falmouth Village later this summer.

Stress Relief is a Weekend Away!

April 3, 2016 by Trish Robinson

Stress relief is a weekend away when you book at The Captain’s Manor Inn! Perhaps it’s the long, cold winter that’s gotten you down? Maybe it’s the never-ending to-do list, or the long hours atwork; regardless of where your stress is coming from, we’ve got the solution to get rid of it! Are you coming in from the city? Then we suggest you bypass the stress of driving, and take the Peter Pan Bus line from Boston or Providence. Your relaxing weekend can begin with the opportunity to dive into that novel you’ve been meaning to read, or catch up with friends and family on social media, all while you’re in transit to beautiful Cape Cod. The best part about the Peter Pan Bus? Your destination is a short walk away from the inn! Of course if walking isn’t your idea of relaxation, you could take a taxi or an Uber, but you might enjoy stretching your legs and taking in the sights on your walk to relaxation!

Ghelfis chocolates for mothers day getawayOnce you arrive at the Inn, any remaining stress from the city will melt away the second you enter. In addition to complimentary gourmet breakfast, afternoon snack and round the clock access to beverages, you’ll receive a bottle of wine and gourmet chocolates from Ghelfi’s Candies of Cape Cod that you can enjoy in a number of relaxing locations at the Inn. Enjoy your wine on the porch, bistro, or dining room or perhaps you’d rather recline on a lounge chair on the acre plus of serene, private grounds.

When you choose the solo stress relief package, you’ll be able to choose between a reflexology or massage treatment. Both reflexology and massage are ancient relaxation and stress relief traditions that have withstood the test of time. An ancient Japanese belief is that the body and mind are interconnected and one cannot be completely relaxed if the other is not. Either of these two treatments will simultaneously relax your body, and your mind.

Spend your day doing whatever it is that relaxes you. Perhaps you’d like to stroll down to Eight 2Cousins, our locally owned and operated book shop and choose a new book? You can take your book to the park or beach and get lost in the pages. Didn’t bring a beach chair or a towel? No problem! Simply borrow one from the Inn!

If your idea of relaxing is fine dining, then you have certainly come to the right place. Steps away from the Inn are the best restaurants in Falmouth. Whether you’re feeling Mexican, Italian, or fusion, Main Street and Queens Buyway will have what you’re looking for. We love The Glass Onion for cocktails and dinner. Check out their menu here.

After an incredibly relaxing day followed by an incredibly relaxing evening, we invite you to prepare for the most restful sleep of your life. Atop your bed will be a Lavender Bear from Cape Cod lavenderelly bear and lavender eye mask for captain's manor innLavender Farm as well as a silky eye mask filled with lavender. Are you sensing a theme? Traced back to 2,500 years ago, lavender has long been used to fight stresses of the body and the mind. Lavender was even used to tame lions and tigers in ancient times! A recent study showed that breathing in the scent of lavender while sleeping increases the amount of time you spend in deep (slow wave) sleep. Of course sleeping on luxury linens helps too!

Stress is an easy thing to get and a difficult thing to lose, but a weekend at our peaceful inn will have you feeling good as new. Click here to book now!

Heated to 2,400 degrees fahrenheit, glass emits enough heat to appear almost white hot and it will all take place right before your eyes! Expert glass blowers at the Sandwich Glass Museum will explain how the tradition evolved from pure function into some of the most beautiful art that exists today. The history of the Sandwich Glass Museum dates back to the 1800’s. If you’d like a preview, feel free to peruse jewelry, ornaments, art, and more! Be sure to check the events calendar, because The Sandwich Glass Museum offers amazing walking tours, receptions, classes and show. done oball

Cape Chic a Cape Cod Boutique Women’s Shop

May 6, 2015 by Trish Robinson

Cape Chic a Cape Cod boutique women’s shop is located at 104 Palmer Avenue in the Queens Buyway shopping venue of Falmouth Village. Cape Chic womens clothing in Cape Cod
Year Established – Cape Chic was established in April of 2013 by Sandy Mullins.
The story behind the name/logo – Sandy wanted to communicate that her boutique shop would offer chic styling but also that the fashions offered would be casual, comfortable and relaxed for a coastal area. The chic being an easy stylish feel vs. a casual sporty feel. Sandy shared that she wanted customers to enjoy casual comfort while having fun with fashion too.
The logo is very interesting because Sandy held an online tournament to create her logo. She did not know any local artists so by using the tournament she had people from all over the world compete to design her logo. The final logo selected was done by an artist in Italy. The tournament process includes typing up a brief for the artists and then an email blast will go out to designers and you provide a cash prize for the selected winner. The coloring for the logo and store interior was already in her mind from a visit she had made to a vineyard tasting room in Oregon years earlier. The color scheme is beachy, fun, happy but not blue as so many other beach destinations use.
Why This Dream – Sandy had dreamed of this type of a shop since she was a little girl but never really thought of it seriously until she grew up in market research, marketing and brand management in the corporate world. Sandy says that as a brand manager you act a bit like a CEO for the brand you are working on. You lead a number of different departments when you are a brand manager including finance, product development, and information technology so Sandy felt that the broad background in managing those areas and her consumer research background and passion for fashion gave her the background to start her own women’s boutique venture here in Cape Cod.
Sandy loves the ocean so she looked at coastal Connecticut and Cape Cod as she selected a final location. Being from Massachusetts, Falmouth became the choice because of Famouth Village and the Main Street walkable community that is thriving. She loved the small town, unique, boutique feel and felt the culture was wonderful in Falmouth Village with events like the JazzFest and all the wonderful restaurants.

Cape Chic interior photo CapeChicinterior1
Fan Favorite Items – One of the top fan favorites would be the Nally & Millie apparel. The fabric feel is very comfortable, travels well and the style is figure flattering with fun colorful prints and a great price point for the customer. The jewelry is a very popular accessory selection in Cape Chic. She gets most of her jewelry from New York but also some from Atlanta and the West Coast.
Unique Offering – Coastal Casual Chic is her store tagline. She strives to offer a bit more contemporary feel than some other Cape Cod boutique shops.
Another fan favorite that is unique to Cape Chic in the area are the Jag jeans that Sandy carries. These are a popular pull on jean that are very comfortable and look stylish with an untucked top style that women are wearing and they have still have a full jean look.
Interesting Trivia – Sandy brings her international brand marketing experience to her boutique. She lived in the UK for some time and conducted market research in Germany, Italy, France, and Sweden.
General Information – Cape Chic is open year round with summer hours daily of 10-6. Winter hours are Wednesday – Friday 10-6 and on Sunday from 12-5.
