New Suite Construction is underway at Captain’s Manor Inn and we couldn’t be more excited! We have been planning this romantic suite for sometime and we are now in full swing.

UPDATE – Since our original post December 29th we have some new photos to share. The electrical has been moved, the insulation of the new walls is complete, sheetrock has also been done. It is really starting to come together. This week the plaster work should be complete. The carpet is ordered and the new King bed is ready to be set up as soon as we finish painting and trim work.

NEW PICTURES:

The Forbes room which was named after Henrietta Forbes (for whom the Inn was originally built by her fiancรฉ Captains Albert Nye) will be combined with the 3rd floor cupola to create a 2 story suite here at the Inn.

The Inn has such a wonderful history. In fact the cupola on the top on the Inn was once known as the observatory as told in the brief story below.

Captain John Robinson Lawrence purchased the property from the original owner, Captain Nye, in 1872. Captain Lawrence was a retired whaling captain turned businessman who maintained deep roots in the Falmouth community.ย ย  He raised his family here and his son H. V. Lawrence left a significant legacy to the Inn.ย ย ย ย  H. V. became a well known horticulturist and the first florist on Cape Cod.ย  The grounds of the Inn bear witness to his talents with many unique trees that survive to this day.ย  H. V. lived in the home until his death at the age of 92 in 1953.
The cupola atop the Inn was known in earlier times as the observatory as it once gave a commanding view of Vineyard sound.ย  As a boy, Milford Lawrence โ€“ son of H.V., had a wireless set in the observatory that he used to speak to the ships he could see passing up and down the sound.

You can experience a bit of that history in the new suite even though you can no longer see Vineyard Sound due to all the tree growth over the past 100+ years. You will see some beautiful sunrises and sunsets as well as a view of the Village Green.

Follow our progress on construction and enjoy these early pictures.

Carriage House Construction

February 4, 2014 by Trish Robinson

The carriage house construction is well underway here at The Captain’s Manor Inn in beautiful Cape Cod. We are hopeful for an April 1 completion in line with the contract and yet it could be April Fools on us. That being said we are very much looking forward to completion of the Carriage House at which time Kevin and I will move over from the Inn to the Carriage House and the current apartment in the Inn will become available for an Assistant Innkeeper that we plan to hire this Spring.

The carriage house doors have been crafted to look authentic and we are in the process of looking for antique hinge hardware to finish them off. We made a trip to New Bedford to the Salvage Warehouse where they have incredible artifacts from old houses, barns and buildings that have either been demolished or remodeled. We have not found the hardware yet but we keep looking. Take a look at where we are now and how we got there.Carriage House Construction Progress

Carriage House Construction

November 11, 2013 by insideout

As many of you know,Kevin loves his construction projects so you can imagine he is very happy to have broken ground for our new carriage house innkeepers quarters.

Just this past week the contractors arrived.ย  On day one two evergreens by the garage were relocated to the back yard near the gazebo and the demolition of the garage was done.ย ย  By the end of the week the excavation for the new foundation was complete.ย  During the excavation a 1914 Massachusetts license plate was unearthed…..How fun!1914 Mass license plate

The beginning of this week the foundation will be staked and the concrete forms set and the hope is that the foundation will have been poured by Thursday or Friday.

Hope you enjoy some picturesย  below:

Renovations to Lawrence bathroom at our Cape Cod Inn

January 18, 2011 by insideout

We are very happy to have begun the renovations to the Lawrence bathroom.ย  The Lawrence room is so beautiful with 14 foot tall ceilings and lovely furnishings that it was crying out for that new bathroom and we just could not get to it before we opened for our first season last May.ย  So we are busy working on it now.ย  Or I should say Kevin is working and I am consulting ๐Ÿ™‚

Some pictures of the work in process, mainly the demolition are below:

The veranda awaits

The major renovation of our cape cod bed & breakfast veranda is complete!ย ย  We are starting to put the rockers and wicker furniture out for all guests to enjoy and it very tempting to take a break and just enjoy the beautiful spring weather.ย  I can just imagine the original owners in their finery having afternoon tea enjoying the cape cod air and beautiful gardens.

A good cleaning

May 7, 2010 by insideout

One of the jobs we knew we had to do at our cape cod bed & breakfast was to clean the pink granite pillars at the entrance to the Inn.ย  After some prep work and then a good power washing the granite looks fabulous.ย  Below is a before and after picture for you to see.

The beautiful natural luster returns!

You can see the green mold being cleaned off.
